CanalAVIST will broadcast the International Conference on “Sustainable Development in the context of Climate Change” on 24-25 September 2009 organized by the Asian Institute of Technology Conference Center.
Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Secretary, UNESCAP will inaugurate the conference. The conference will gather partners and stakeholders to discuss emerging and urgent issues and plan joint research efforts.
Sessions will be held for each thematic sub-group area. The concluding session of the planned workshop will facilitate discussion to generate synergy and coherence in sustainable development and climate change research among donor groups, scientists and AIT network of partners and collaborators.
AIT Thematic Knowledge Sub-areas are:
• Vulnerability and Disaster Risk Reduction
• Water Resources and Coastal Adaptation
• Urban and Rural Sustainability
• Low Carbon Society and Renewable Technology
• Agriculture, Land Use and Forestry
• Cleaner Production and Waste Refineries
Rationale
AIT has been engaged in cutting-edge research on sustainable development and climate change. This research effort gained renewed significance as climate change has emerged as a crucial issue of our time. Incorporated into AIT’s Strategic Plan 2013 is the consolidation of research efforts and creation of a niche that will harness the Institute’s range of network, experience and expertise.
In light of all these, AIT is organizing an international conference on “Sustainable Development in the context of Climate Change” to consolidate and strengthen AIT’s research initiatives and collaborative partnerships in this field.
Objective
The international conference on “Sustainable Development in the context of Climate Change” aims to:
• Bring together thought-leaders, research groups and SDCC experts to reflect on future research, design action plans and agenda to face emerging issues and urgent themes in climate change adaptation and mitigation
• Consolidate the Institute’ s research efforts and partnerships by providing a platform to discuss shared initiatives with like-minded stakeholders and partners
• Launch AIT’s center for climate change research and action |
